Randy grew up in Tucson, Arizona and began playing drums at a very early age. Although he dabbled with other instruments including piano, guitar, and clarinet, all of which informed his overall musicianship, his focus on drums and percussion happened early. His professional drumming career began at age 11 playing drums in the pit band for a community theater production and at age 15 he was a featured guest soloist with the Tucson Symphony.
Living in southern CA since the early 80’s, Randy has enjoyed working with some of the most highly respected players in the area. Over the years he has enjoyed collaborations with countless bands and ensembles of all sizes and styles. Randy is experienced in a diverse range of musical settings and styles including jazz, pop, classic rock, funk, soul, and country, and has also worked in various orchestral settings including opera, ballet, and musical theater. His long list of musical influences includes both the legendary players of earlier generations as well as the standout innovators on the scene today.
Randy is passionate about drumming and enjoys sharing practical tips for real-world drumming excellence. His students benefit from his experience as well as his ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people of all ages and abilities. His focus is to listen to his students and form a structured and enjoyable path toward their success in whatever musical styles or situations they may encounter.
